New iPhone 3G back with door for replaceable battery?
Didn't a company tear down the iPhone 3G and note that the battery is not soldered in? How fast can some enterprising company create a new back for the iPhone 3G (just two screws to remove it?) that has a door so that batteries can be replaced? Anyone? You'd sell about 40 million by the end of next year. :-)

Ummm... Not so much...
If you bothered to look at the teardown you would see that:
- The device actually disassembles from the display side once you remove the two screws, working down finally to the plastic back cover.

- The battery appears to be sandwiched between the logic board (closer to the back cover) and the display. The fact that it is no longer soldered in (which is great) just means that qualified service people can replace it more easily. Not that you can.
- The back cover is not simply a cover but an integral part of the phone and its antenna system.

So bottom line is I would bet my iPhone that you won't see any $0.50 plastic solutions to your battery woes. Try one of the external battery packs which charge and power the phone in a pinch.

Cheers.
Take a look at Apple's tips for improved battery life here. Or try an external rechargeable iPhone battery like this one.
